The updated Tesla Model Y is off to a phenomenal start in China, outpacing the reengineered Model 3’s reception. According to Chinese media reports, orders for the refreshed Model Y have skyrocketed since pre-sales opened earlier this month.

Within just five days of launch, the Model Y secured over 70,000 orders, with news outlet Yicai citing an insider. Jiemian further reported that orders had reached 73,400 by January 15, with 59,000 attributed to the facelifted model.

Tesla introduced the updated Model Y in China on January 10, offering two variants: a rear-wheel-drive version starting at RMB 263,500 ($36,280) and a long-range all-wheel-drive variant at RMB 303,500. Deliveries are expected to begin in March.
